The Shakman lawsuit prohibits employment decisions based on political considerations for most government employees.  Retired Judge Clifford Meacham has been appointed Compliance Administrator for the Sheriff of Cook County and is responsible for adjudicating claims of political discrimination, investigating unlawful employment actions, training supervisors and employees in order to have a culture free from political considerations in most terms or aspects of employment, including hiring, promotion, discharge, overtime and transfers and recommending changes to the Sheriff's operations.  This website contains specific information about the orders entered in the Shakman case, the Office of the Compliance Administrator, the claims procedure, reporting retaliation and other relevant information, including claim forms.
