All former and current employees of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office who believe they were the subject of political discrimination between June 1, 2006 and Oct. 30, 2008 must file a claim before next week.

Retired Judge Clifford L. Meacham who is now the Shakman Compliance Administrator for the Cook County Sheriff, said the deadline for bringing political discrimination claims expires next Friday, February 27.

“Political discrimination claims include hiring, firing or discipline decisions based upon political factors such as the failure to do campaign work or to make contributions,” Meacham said.  .  

The Shakman Compliance Administrator for the Cook County Sheriff was appointed by U.S. District Judge Wayne Andersen on November 17, 2008 to adjudicate claims of political discrimination.  The Shakman decrees aim to address the abuses of patronage in many government offices.
